Evaluate your physical condition using the following method. Take a moment to reflect on your current fitness level.
1. Balance Test (One Foot, Eyes Closed): Award yourself 10 points if you can stand on one foot with your eyes closed for over 1 minute. Give yourself 8 points if you manage more than 40 seconds, 5 points for over 30 seconds, 3 points for over 15 seconds, and just 1 point if you can hold it for more than 5 seconds.
2. Stair Climbing: Choose a building with at least the 18th floor and climb up at a pace of one step per second. If you feel no tiredness, give yourself 10 points. If you notice slight leg fatigue or shallow breathing, that’s 8 points. If your heart rate increases and your breathing becomes heavier, award yourself 5 points. If you feel very sluggish, that’s 3 points. And if you have to stop during the climb, give yourself 1 point.
3. Weekly Exercise Frequency: If you do two 1-hour workouts per week, that’s 10 points. One 1-hour session gets you 8 points. If you accumulate 1 hour of activity throughout the week, that’s 5 points. Less than an hour of exercise gives you 3 points. Just a few simple movements? That’s 1 point.
4. Recent Energy Level: Rate your energy based on how you feel. If you feel great, give yourself 10 points. If you feel normal, that’s 8 points. If you feel average, 5 points. If you feel not so good, 3 points. If you feel really low, that’s 1 point.
5. Slowest Running Time: If you can run for 30 minutes without stopping, that’s 10 points. If you can run between 20 to 25 minutes, that’s 8 points. Between 15 to 20 minutes is 5 points. Between 10 to 15 minutes is 3 points. And if you can’t even run for 10 minutes, that’s 1 point.
Once you’ve scored all five categories, add up your total. If you score over 45, your physical condition is excellent. A score between 40 and 44 means you're in good shape. If you score above 35, you're average. Below 34 means your fitness is poor. And if your total is under 20, it's time to take your health seriously and consider making some changes.
