What is a metal hose?

Metal hoses are essential components in engineering systems, typically made up of a corrugated flexible tube, a braided mesh sleeve, and a connector. They serve as compensators, sealing elements, connection points, and damping devices in gas and fluid pipeline systems, as well as in systems that require compensation for length, temperature, position, and angular changes. These versatile hoses are widely used across various industries, including aerospace, petrochemicals, mining, electronics, shipbuilding, healthcare, textiles, energy, and construction.

Constructed from austenitic stainless steel or customized materials based on specific requirements, metal hoses offer exceptional flexibility, corrosion resistance, high-temperature tolerance (ranging from -235°C to +450°C), and high-pressure resistance (up to 32MPa, with some models reaching 42MPa). They can be connected in any direction within a pipeline, allowing them to absorb vibrations, reduce noise, redirect the flow of media, and eliminate mechanical displacements between pipes or between pipes and equipment. Double-flange metal corrugated hoses are especially suitable for use with pumps, valves, and other machinery, offering excellent performance in dynamic environments.

As a critical pressure-bearing component in piping systems, the bellows of the metal hose is protected by a mesh sleeve. Depending on the system’s pressure and application, one or more layers of stainless steel wire or strip can be woven around it. The pressure range for Twilight brand hoses typically spans from PN0.6 to 32.0MPa, with some models capable of handling up to 42.0MPa. Since the primary components are made from austenitic stainless steel, these hoses provide outstanding thermal and corrosion resistance, operating effectively over a wide temperature range of -196°C to 600°C. The level of corrosion resistance can be tailored by selecting the appropriate stainless steel grade based on the nature of the medium flowing through the pipe.

Corrugated metal hoses are known for their excellent flexibility, fatigue resistance, high-pressure and high-temperature capabilities, and strong corrosion resistance. Compared to rubber or plastic hoses, they have a significantly longer service life, making them a cost-effective solution in the long run. With the continuous advancement of modern industries, the demand for high-performance corrugated metal hoses that can withstand extreme temperatures and pressures is steadily increasing. These hoses are ideal for applications requiring flexible piping to control vibration, and they are commonly used in steam, gas, air, heavy oil, chemical, and pharmaceutical systems.
