In agricultural practices, many fruit farmers typically remove the fallen leaves from the garden and take them outside the park with the aim of reducing the occurrence of pests and diseases in the following year. However, this approach has its limitations. If properly combined with fertilization, it would be more beneficial to collect and bury the fallen leaves directly in the soil. Although some leaves may have been damaged by pests or diseases, they can still be effectively used as organic fertilizer if buried in the ground. Additionally, these leaves are rich in essential nutrients that support the growth of fruit trees, making them a valuable resource for the soil. According to research, apple leaves contain approximately 3–6% nitrogen, 0.2–0.3% phosphorus, and 2% potassium, along with various trace elements. Pear leaves, on the other hand, contain about 2–2.2% nitrogen, 0.1–0.25% phosphorus, and 1.2–2.6% potassium. After the fruiting season, the total amount of nitrogen in all the leaves of a pear orchard is equivalent to about 98 kg of ammonium bicarbonate, 12 kg of superphosphate, and 20 kg of potassium carbonate. These nutrients can significantly contribute to the health and development of fruit trees. Moreover, when leaves are used as organic fertilizer, they help improve soil structure, increase organic matter content, enhance soil aeration, and improve water retention and nutrient-holding capacity. They can also help adjust the pH level of the soil, creating a more favorable environment for plant growth. Therefore, there is no need to remove the leaves from the garden. When used correctly, they can serve as an excellent on-site organic fertilizer. However, it is important to combine this practice with deep plowing to ensure the leaves are properly incorporated into the soil, thus minimizing the risk of pest and disease spread. By adopting this method, farmers can make better use of natural resources, reduce the need for chemical fertilizers, and promote sustainable farming practices.
