**Preventive Measures:**
Cowpeas have a strong ability to fix nitrogen, so it’s important to use base fertilizers that include biological and organic materials with low nitrogen content. Applying root micro-fertilizers along with root irrigation can stimulate the soil to release nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and other essential nutrients, boosting fruit development and improving overall quality. This helps strengthen the root system and enhances the plant’s resistance to diseases.
**Early Management:**
During the early growth stage, avoid heavy watering and top-dressing before pod formation. After flowering, it’s recommended to apply a high-potassium fertilizer to promote fruit development. Then spray a vegetable fruit enhancer to improve pollen fertility, increase fruit set rates, and ensure uniform, high-quality yields without deformities, empty shells, or sticky grains.
**Control Methods:**
After the emergence of cowpea seedlings, it is advised to spray a new fat film to reduce water evaporation from the soil and prevent excessive transpiration from the plants. This helps isolate pests and diseases, shortens the seedling period, and allows the plants to adapt quickly to their environment. Mix 25ml of powder cream with 0.5g of bi-protection in 15kg of water, and apply this solution once every 7–10 days. This treatment effectively eliminates diseases and kills nematodes in the rhizosphere, preventing red root disease and ensuring healthier cowpea crops.
