Carbon tool steel

Carbon tool steel is a type of high-carbon steel that contains minimal or no alloying elements. Its carbon content typically ranges from 0.65% to 1.35%, which gives it excellent hardness and wear resistance after proper heat treatment. This makes it a popular choice for manufacturing cutting tools, dies, and measuring instruments. The material is relatively inexpensive, easy to source, and offers good machinability before heat treatment.

Despite its advantages, carbon tool steel has some limitations. One major drawback is its poor red hardness, meaning that when the operating temperature exceeds 250°C, the steel loses a significant amount of its hardness and wear resistance, leading to reduced performance and potential failure. Additionally, larger parts made from this type of steel are more difficult to harden uniformly, and they are prone to distortion or cracking during the heat treatment process. These factors limit its use in high-temperature applications or large-scale components.

For these reasons, engineers often choose other types of tool steels, such as high-speed steels or alloyed tool steels, when higher thermal stability and better hardenability are required. However, carbon tool steel remains a cost-effective option for many traditional machining and manufacturing tasks where high temperatures are not a concern.

Clip Fabric Seal

The purpose of using fabric sandwiched rubber sealing material is to increase the stiffness and strength of the sealing ring, prevent rubber extrusion, and make it suitable for high pressure. At the same time, in the process of wear, rubber wears ahead of fabric. When the rubber of the parts with high contact pressure wears off, the wear extends to the parts with low contact pressure, so that the wear of the whole sealing surface tends to be uniform, but the friction does not change significantly. However, the lip of the rubber sealing ring sandwiched with fabric can easily scrape off the oil film on the sliding surface, so the lubricity is worse than that of leather and polytetrafluoroethylene.
