1. Overview
Aluminum ash is a byproduct generated during the aluminum smelting process, typically accounting for around 3% of the total output. For large-scale aluminum plants, the annual production of aluminum ash is substantial. If not properly managed, this waste accumulates in the plant area, leading to both resource wastage and environmental pollution. The primary components of aluminum ash—also known as industrial waste from aluminum alloy casting and smelting—include aluminum oxide scale, magnesium oxide scale, and small amounts of aluminum and silicon. Among these, metallic aluminum and alumina are the main constituents, with metallic aluminum making up 20–30% and alumina over 70%. Currently, there are several methods available for treating this type of industrial waste, but most come with significant environmental drawbacks. One common approach involves melting the waste in a large pot, heating it, and stirring repeatedly to separate solid aluminum. However, this method is inefficient and only recovers metallic aluminum, while producing harmful emissions and residual waste. Another method, electrolytic recycling, can negatively impact the electrolysis process if the waste is not treated properly. To address these issues, this paper presents a new manufacturing technology that directly integrates aluminum ash into the electrolytic production cycle, enabling comprehensive utilization. This innovative approach uses a novel slag-forming agent, offering advantages such as a simplified production process, reduced pollution, and cost-effectiveness.2. Technical Process Plan
The technical process flow is illustrated in the diagram below. The implementation involves a series of steps designed to efficiently process and recycle aluminum ash, minimizing environmental impact while maximizing resource recovery.
