On August 22, 15 methanol-powered vehicles officially started operating in Baoji, marking a significant milestone for Shaanxi Province. Since being designated as a national methanol vehicle pilot region by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Shaanxi has made remarkable progress, becoming the second province after Shanxi to launch an official methanol vehicle pilot program.
The pilot project in Baoji includes 10 methanol minibuses and 5 methanol minivans developed and manufactured by Shaanxi Tongjia Company. Following the start of pilots in Xi'an, Xianyang, Yulin, and Hanzhong, additional vehicles will be introduced, including 10 methanol trucks from Shaanxi Automobile Group and 90 methanol cars from Geely. These vehicles will be tested in real-world conditions to evaluate their performance and practicality.
Fuel for the pilot program will be supplied by Shaanxi Extended Neutral Company and Shaanxi Baojiang Petrochemical Company, ensuring a steady supply of high-methanol-content fuel. The overall goal of the pilot is to collect data over the next two to three years and conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the applicability, reliability, economy, and safety of high-proportion methanol vehicles.
This initiative not only aims to advance the development of methanol vehicles within Shaanxi but also seeks to accumulate valuable experience for the broader national methanol industrialization effort. By promoting cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions, Shaanxi is playing a key role in shaping the future of alternative fuels in China.
