In a small town in Hengshui, an elderly man named Zhang Wenyan has turned his daily commute into a green adventure. On a scorching summer day, while many avoid the sun, Zhang proudly shows off his solar-powered electric tricycle—his latest DIY project that blends innovation with environmental responsibility.
The vehicle, which looks like a regular electric tricycle at first glance, is actually equipped with four solar panels mounted on top. These panels are connected via wires to the battery underneath the seat. "As long as there's sunlight, it can charge automatically," Zhang explained with a smile. He added that he spent around 2,000 yuan on the project, including the cost of the solar panels and installation brackets.
Zhang, a 65-year-old retired worker from Tancheng County, lives in downtown Hengshui. Every time he travels back to his hometown in Luancheng City, he used to carry a fully charged battery because of the limited charging options. Now, with his solar-powered upgrade, he no longer has to worry about running out of power during the day.
"This is just the beginning," he said. "I plan to add a storage system so the solar panels can also power my phone or even a small TV. I want to take my grandchildren on road trips across China using this eco-friendly vehicle."
His dream is to travel all over the country within five years, spreading awareness about renewable energy and sustainable living. For Zhang, it's not just about transportation—it's about making a difference, one sunny day at a time.
