TurboC, a popular programming language, is commonly used to develop system software and most application programs. Using TurboC to directly access FoxPro database files enables the creation of powerful and efficient software solutions, making data retrieval and manipulation more convenient. FoxPro represents a significant advancement over earlier xBASE systems like dBASE, FoxBASE, and Clipper, which were essentially file management systems limited to single-table operations. In contrast, FoxPro offers over 600 commands and functions, providing a robust and comprehensive database environment. It introduces new features such as menu-driven operation, supporting both keyboard and mouse input. Compared to traditional xBASE systems, FoxPro excels in performance, theoretical foundation, and methodology. Its user interface, especially in Visual FoxPro, is highly intuitive, leveraging Windows-based graphics, fonts, links, and embedded objects for an enhanced user experience. In the design of plastic molds, a large volume of standard parts data is required, including national, ministerial, and enterprise standards. For instance, the SG276.9-82 standard from the Ministry of Light Industry contains 14 standard components such as guide posts, guide sleeves, positioning rings, push rods, templates, and sprue bushes. Storing this data efficiently requires a structured approach. By using the FoxPro database, it becomes easier to store and retrieve standard part information. For example, the standard size of the positioning ring (SG276.9-82) can be stored in a FoxPro database file, making it accessible for mold design calculations and parameterized drawing. During the CAD process for molds, designers frequently need to access standard parts data. This includes retrieving specific parameters for selecting appropriate models and sizes, or calling data during the parameterization of drawings. Previously, this involved converting database files into text format, which was inefficient and required constant updates whenever changes occurred. Using TurboC to directly read FoxPro database files improves efficiency, reduces manual intervention, and enhances the independence of the database. For example, a database file named SG276_9.dbf was created in Visual FoxPro 3.0a for the positioning ring standard. Once created, users can modify the structure using the Table Designer, browse and edit data through the Browse command, or append new records using the Append function. These tasks can also be performed via direct command entry in the Command window. The ability to easily manage and update data ensures that the database remains accurate and up-to-date. The program developed for this purpose is not only versatile but also adaptable to various standard parts databases. It allows the parameterized drawing program to directly access data from arrays, enabling the automatic generation of standard part graphics for design purposes. This integration of design, data querying, and drawing streamlines the entire mold design process, improving productivity and accuracy.
