Drones can take infrared images so that people can quickly learn about potentially dangerous areas. “Under ordinary light, unexploded or hidden mines in the green area are often difficult to see. However, it is easy to distinguish the mine from the surrounding objects through an infrared camera,” Day said.

Bristol researchers are developing technologies that are suitable for commercial drones so that people in areas with mine safety hazards around the world can use drones to eliminate hazards. The project officially began in January 2016, and the charity, Find A Better Way, funded the project. The charity also hopes to find a faster, cheaper and safer way to clear mines.
