Recent data from the U.S. Institute of Fertilizer reveals a significant decline in ammonium phosphate exports over the first 11 months of this year. Diammonium phosphate (DAP) exports fell by 14% year-on-year, while monoammonium phosphate (MAP) exports dropped by 20% compared to the same period last year.
In November alone, DAP exports plummeted by 75%, with only 141.162 million tons shipped out. The largest destinations were Canada (53,000 short tons), Brazil (32,000 short tons), and Peru (30,000 short tons). Year-to-date, total DAP exports reached 3.17 million short tons, down 14% from the previous year. Notably, exports to India dropped sharply by 49%, while shipments to Brazil rose by 65%, Japan increased by 7%, and Argentina and Peru saw double-digit growth.
For MAP, November exports totaled 98,722,000 short tons, reflecting a 20% year-on-year decline. Key markets included Canada (58,000 tons) and Australia (30,000 tons). From January to November, total MAP exports amounted to 1.57 million short tons, down 20% compared to 2023. Exports to Canada decreased by 30%, while shipments to Australia grew by 35%. However, Brazil and Argentina saw declines, with Brazil down 51% and Argentina down 5%. Japan also experienced a 7% drop in imports.
The overall trend suggests shifting demand patterns and possible supply chain adjustments in the U.S. fertilizer sector.
