Innovative steam cleaning technology is more environmentally friendly, faster, and cost-effective
In March 2013, Dürr Ecoclean introduced the EcoCSteam system—a groundbreaking, eco-friendly cleaning technology designed to revolutionize industrial surface and component cleaning. This advanced method utilizes saturated steam combined with high-speed airflow to effectively remove a wide range of contaminants, such as oils, greases, dust, fingerprints, and more, without the need for any chemical agents. The process not only supports environmental sustainability but also offers excellent automation compatibility and a strong return on investment.
As industries continue to prioritize efficiency, sustainability, and quality, Dürr Ecoclean’s EcoCSteam technology aligns perfectly with these evolving demands. By eliminating the use of detergents, it provides a fast and reliable solution for removing particulate or film-like substances from various materials. Its ease of integration into automated production lines makes it an attractive choice for manufacturers looking to streamline their processes.
Multi-application solution
Traditionally, cleaning large and heavy components like wind turbine drives, locomotive modules, marine engines, and ship parts required expensive and bulky equipment. EcoCSteam introduces a more efficient alternative that delivers superior cleaning results while reducing costs. It works exceptionally well on mechanical parts such as cylinder heads, casings, and stampings, and is also ideal for cleaning liquid storage tanks, composite structures, and metal or plastic components before painting or coating. Compared to traditional methods, EcoCSteam consistently provides better cleaning quality and shorter cycle times, proven across multiple industries beyond automotive.
Innovative steam generation technology ensures process reliability
Dürr Ecoclean’s new steam generation method, developed in collaboration with industry experts, is central to the success of the EcoCSteam process. This "through-flow" technique heats water under pressure using a heating coil within a piping system. Depending on the cleaning task, the system can heat water to temperatures between 135°C and 280°C, converting it into steam that is then directed to the cleaning nozzle through the same piping.
Unlike conventional boiler systems, this method maintains consistent steam quality and quantity, ensuring stable performance throughout the cleaning process. The system uses a programmable logic controller (PLC) to precisely regulate heating power, water flow, and steam output, continuously monitoring and adjusting key parameters.
The interaction between steam and high-speed air enhances cleaning effectiveness. As the steam exits the nozzle, it is accelerated into a high-velocity air mass that can be precisely targeted at the surface being cleaned. This combination prevents mixing of the two media, allowing for optimal cleaning performance.
Fast, economical cleaning technology
EcoCSteam typically requires just one or two cleaning steps, significantly reducing cycle time and increasing productivity compared to traditional methods. Its compact design also contributes to cost efficiency, as it reduces initial investment and eliminates the need for chemical cleaners, baths, and filtration systems—resulting in lower operational costs. Additionally, the system is easy to maintain and offers high availability, making it a reliable and practical choice for modern manufacturing environments.
