ECHA initiates unified classification and labelling advice on 2-PFOS

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) recently issued a Norwegian proposal for a unified classification and labeling (C&L) of 8:2 fluorotelomer alcohol (8:2 FTOH) to initiate consultation with the public. This material is mainly used for oil, water, and anti-fouling treatment of textiles, paper, and carpets. It is used as a detergent and is often used as a residual material.

The proposal includes:

l According to the directive 67/548/EEC, it is recommended to classify it as: Xn; R48/20/22 long-term exposure to health damage;

l According to the CLP regulations, it is recommended to classify it as: STOT RE.2-H373 damage to organs when exposed to prolonged or repeated exposure;

According to the directive 67/548/EEC, it is recommended that the label be: Hazard Classification: Harmful (Xn); R48/22;

l According to the CLP regulations, it is recommended that the label be: identifier - GHS08; logo text - warning; hazard description code - H373.

The public consultation date is until September 3, 2010.
