The key to the large-scale application of electrolyzed water is how to reduce the overpotential of the anode oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and the cathode hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), and realize the high-current hydrogen production at a low potential, thereby reducing power consumption and hydrogen production costs. Studies have shown that Ru, Ir, Pt and other precious metals and their oxides have the most excellent hydrogen evolution catalytic performance, but their high price and lack of resources limit the wide application of these materials. Therefore, the development of cheap and efficient non-precious metal electrolyzed water catalysts has very important scientific significance and practical value.
Existing catalysts usually only have a high catalytic activity for one reaction (OER or HER), so electrolysis of water requires two different types of catalysts. This makes the electrolyzed water equipment more complicated and increases operating costs. If the catalysts with different functions are assembled into a heterostructure nanomaterial with a hierarchical structure, and a dual-function total water-resolving catalyst is constructed, the above problems can be effectively solved.
Based on this, researchers in the Institute of Solid State Physics assembled Ni3Se4 nanosheets with hydrogen evolution performance and NiFe with oxygen evolution performance into a heterogeneous total water splitting catalyst with a hierarchical structure through a simple two-step hydrothermal method. Due to the stable hierarchical structure and the electronic interaction between the catalysts, this nanocatalyst has excellent total water splitting activity. When the current density of total water splitting is 10mA / cm2, the required voltage is only 1.54V, and the current density is Working continuously for 10 hours at 10mA / cm2, without obvious attenuation, which proves that its stability is very good.
