What is a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor?

High temperature gas cooled reactor

Use helium as a coolant and a high temperature reactor. The high-temperature gas-cooled reactor uses coated granular fuel and graphite as a moderator. The core outlet temperature is 850-1000°C, even higher. High-concentration dioxide* is commonly used for nuclear fuels, and low-concentration dioxide* is also used. According to the shape of the core, the high-temperature gas-cooled reactor divides the pebble bed into a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor and a prismatic high-temperature gas-cooled reactor. High-temperature gas-cooled reactors have high thermal efficiency (40% to 41%), high fuel consumption (up to 20MWd/t*), and high conversion ratio (0.7 to 0.8). Because the helium has good chemical stability, good heat transfer performance, and low induced radioactivity, it can safely carry out the residual heat after shutdown and has good safety performance.
