Alps Electric presented various examples of IoT-related products at the internal exhibition "ALPS SHOW 2016" (September 20-21), which is for invitees only. Many of these items will be displayed at "CEATEC JAPAN 2016" (held on October 4-7 at the Messe Messe Convention and Exhibition Center). Here's one of them - a system that monitors equipment operation through power consumption.
In the show, Alps Electric revealed that the company's electromagnetic current sensor modules for power consumption monitoring systems in factories have been used experimentally by ABB Switzerland, which is engaged in power systems and other businesses. The two companies had previously worked together to develop electromagnetic current sensor modules for switchboards.
The modules developed by both parties use Alps Electric's MR (magnetoresistive) sensor, which is a commercial product, and measures the magnetic field generated by the non-contact cable in the switchboard to infer the current flowing out of it. Alps Electric has introduced analog output products that measure data as general supplies, and it has also developed digital output products that meet ABB's performance parameters such as its motor products.
ABB hopes to monitor the running status of each machine by continuously monitoring the power consumption of each machine, thereby reducing the power consumption and shortening the time that the machine does not work. (Reporter: Mitsui often)
