Advantages of extra-root fertilization

In addition to the roots that absorb nutrients, leaves and green branches can also absorb nutrients. Spraying a solution containing nutrients onto the aerial parts of the crop (mainly leaves) is called extra-fertilization.

The advantages of extra-fertilization are:

(1) Directly supply crops with effective nutrients to prevent fixation or conversion in the soil to reduce fertilizer efficiency.

(2) When the absorption capacity of the system is weak, the external fertilizer is applied, and the crop is easily absorbed into the nutrient. For example, spraying urea and potassium dihydrogen phosphate at the end of rice growth will have good results.

(3) The absorption and transformation of nutrients by leaves is faster than roots, which can timely supplement the needs of crops for nutrients. For example, it usually takes 4-5 days for urea to be applied to the soil, but it usually takes 1-2 days to effect. Therefore, it is better to use the external fertilization effect in the prevention and treatment of deficiency syndrome.

(4) External fertilization is suitable for mechanization and is economical and effective. The amount of fertilization outside the roots is usually only about 10% of the soil, and many fertilizers, especially urea, can be sprayed with many pesticides at the same time. Save time and labor; if using mechanical spraying, the efficiency is high and the effect is fast. It is most suitable to use extra-root fertilization in fruit trees, tea trees and vegetable cultivation. At present, foreign countries use mechanical roots for fertilization in pineapple fertilization.
