Forecasting the trend of the UK fastener market in 2012

According to the IBIS World Market Research Report, the global fastener market has exceeded US$50 billion. Fastener-related manufacturers in the UK are mainly locked in high value-added sectors, but the UK's local industry is relatively small and the main operators are subsidiaries of foreign companies.

It is expected that during the period from 2011 to 2012, the UK's fastener and screw machinery product manufacturing revenue will reach 498 million euros, an increase of 3.4% over 2010-2011. In 2011-2012, the domestic market size of fasteners and screw machinery products in the UK will reach EUR 862 million, which represents a year-on-year increase of 5.5%.

Manufacturers of fasteners and screw machinery in the United Kingdom tend to be close to major customer groups such as automotive and aerospace manufacturing. In addition, historical reasons may also affect the location of the manufacturing plant. For example, a manufacturer of steel containers may have built the company near his residence. British fasteners and related industries are mainly concentrated in the West Midlands region, which accounts for 39% of the total number of fastener and screw machinery manufacturers in the UK. The region is a large-scale manufacturing base in the UK, with the automotive industry as the mainstay.

PET Woven Geotextile is high strength woven geotextiles manufactured by weaving high tenacity polyester filament yarns into a dimensionally stable network. The inherent characteristics of polyester – high tensile strength and modulus, low elongation, low creep and high long-term design strength -  makes these products ideal for soil reinforcement applications. The fabric develops excellent frictional interaction with a wide variety of soils and granular materials.

The relatively small openings of these fabrics enable them to act as efficient separators preventing the mixing of costly granular materials with fine-grained soils.  The geotextile has reasonably high permeability to prevent excessive build-up of pore-pressures due to applied loadings.
